Choosing what to do after your GCSEs is a big decision, but it’s also an exciting opportunity to discover what you enjoy and start building towards your future career.
Across our College, students are studying everything from Engineering and Carpentry, to Hairdressing, Early Years and even Public Services! With expert lecturers, industry-standard facilities, real work experience and a supportive community, there’s a course to match every ambition.
We spoke to students throughout the year about why they chose College, what they’ve enjoyed most, and how their course is helping them prepare for the future:
Elvis | Level 2 Digital and IT
Elvis chose Digital and IT because he wants to build a career in the tech industry. Since starting College, he’s developed new technical skills, discovered specialist equipment and enjoys putting what he learns into practice while completing personal projects.
“What I enjoy most is the ability to create things that can have a real impact. The course has given me a strong foundation and opened my eyes to the opportunities available in IT.”
Albert – Level 2 Carpentry
After enjoying Carpentry at school, Albert wanted to develop his skills in a professional workshop. He’s loved working with industry-standard equipment and seeing his projects come to life.
“There’s so much more freedom and you’re treated like an adult. We’re already using professional tools, so it feels like we could go straight into the industry afterwards.”
Lillian – Level 3 Early Years
Lillian has always enjoyed working with children, but now her unique opportunity to visit Tenerife with the College has given her the confidence to pursue an international career as a travelling nanny.
“It’s made me realise that I can achieve what I set my mind to. It’s really built my confidence and made me excited about working abroad in the future.”
Christopher – Level 2 Engineering
Christopher chose Engineering to develop another practical skill alongside his interest in Carpentry. He enjoys the hands-on nature of the course and the workshop environment.
“The circuitry work has probably been my favourite. It’s really practical and enjoyable.”
Frankie – Level 2 Hairdressing
Alongside her College classes, Frankie is busy gaining valuable experience at Ginger Hair and Beauty salon, which is helping her understand exactly what a career in Hairdressing is like.
“Being in the salon gives you so many different experiences such as working with the public in an environment away from education. The best part might sound a bit cheesy, but it’s the people. The girls I’ve worked with are so friendly, and being here gives you a real insight into what it’s like working in a salon, which makes it a nice environment to be in.”
Louise – Level 2 Public Services
Louise enjoys the independence College gives her. She also feels like her course is preparing her well for her goal of becoming a firefighter through practical sessions, fitness and first aid training.
“It feels much more grown up. I can balance College, work and fitness, and it’s a much better balance than school. I like that kind of independence and the fact that you’re trusted to manage your own time a bit more.”
Cassy – Junior College
After finding mainstream school wasn’t the right fit, Cassy joined Junior College for a fresh start. Smaller class sizes and practical learning have helped her rediscover her confidence and even sparked an interest in Carpentry.
“With smaller groups, you get much more one-to-one time with teachers. Coming here gave me the chance to start again.”
Don’t forget, College is about more than just gaining a qualification, it’s a chance to develop new skills, build confidence, make friends and take the first step towards a career you’ll enjoy.
