What we love about Engineering at EKC Sheppey College

15 July 2026
We spoke to three students, Alfie, Christopher, and Louie, about how they’ve found studying Level 2 Engineering, what they’ve loved, and what they hope to do next.

Whether you’re fascinated by the intricate workings of machines or aspire to become an engineer of the future, our Engineering course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to start your journey in this dynamic industry.

We spoke to three students, Alfie, Christopher, and Louie, about how they’ve found studying Level 2 Engineering, what they’ve loved, and what they hope to do next.

Alfie, Level 2 Engineering:

“It’s always been something I was interested in. Everything in the world requires Engineering, so it was a good choice.

“We recently used the Engineering workshop to solder components onto a circuit. I’d say learning soldering and using the soldering irons was my favourite part as it’s one of the practical elements we’ve done on the course.

“If you’re thinking about studying it then just do it. There’s an engineer for anything you can think of in the world today so it would be perfect to do.

“I’d like to become an electrician in the future. The career prospects are good, and I like organising things so electrical work with wires falls neatly into that.”

Christopher, Level 2 Engineering:

“I thought it would be a fun course to do, and it’s good to have a wider skillset. It seemed like a logical next step for me.

“My favourite part I’d say is probably the circuitry work that we’ve done in the workshop. It was fun and very practical.

“I like that the Engineering workshops we have at College are always tidy. Everyone who uses it knows each other across the College, and we’ve got enough space in here to work on projects individually.

“After College, I’d like to find a job in Engineering or a trade. I’ve always enjoyed practical work and taking part in similar projects to what we’ve done here, so it makes sense for me.”

Louie, Level 2 Engineering

“I chose Engineering to expand my knowledge on different trades and skills.”

“My advice to new learners is be prepared for a lot of theory work on the course.”

“In the Engineering workshops, there’s plenty of room in here to work and safety has been a big factor in the design of it.”

“In the future, I’d like to go into a trade of some description as I’ve always liked building stuff. Engineering will help me with that.”
