Whether you want to captivate an audience through photography, video production or graphic design, or boost your technical skills, our Creative Media courses will set you up for a successful future.
We spoke to three students, James, Craig and Jack, about how they’ve found studying Creative Media, what they’ve loved, and what they hope to do next.
James – Level 3 Creative Media
“Originally, I wanted to go into Sixth Form, but then I decided I would like to do something a bit more specialised and focused in an area I love. That’s when I came across the Creative Media course.
“I like all the software and the features that we use to create different products and different designs. We use the Adobe suite a lot, which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects.
“My favourite software I’d say is probably Photoshop because I’ve got used to it over time and I know now thanks to the teaching what to do with projects on it.
“My final projects have been a lot of fun. I can choose exactly what I want to do and then draft up a plan and produce my vision. This year I did a 2D platformer game and that was fun to design my own game and use different software to be able to do it.
“After College, I’m hoping to go to Canterbury Christ Church University and study game design because this is something I’ve been passionate about since I was in secondary school. I’ve gained lots of skills at College that will help me in this regard.
“My advice for someone considering studying at College is if you can find something that you really, really love to do at College, just go for it. It’s one of the best decisions you can make because you deepen your knowledge and will end up going into something you love.
“Even though EKC Sheppey College is a small community, it is still a lovely place to be in. We have so many people who are so nice and helpful. The staff and the students, they’re all lovely.
“The small community atmosphere means I know everyone and if I need to go to somebody, I know who to go to.”

Craig – Level 3 Creative Media:
I enjoy working with computers and I love 3D modelling. I spent my College time learning it, so it feels a worthwhile route to go down.
After College, I hope to start my own 3D printing business. Hopefully, the modelling skills I’ve learned and the projects I’ve worked on will help me with that. I looked into this because it’s an option I’m really interested in, from creating to printing and selling my designs.
I chose College because it was a new and exciting opportunity given to me. It’s always worth learning a few more new things. I’ve enjoyed working with Photoshop and it’s great for 3D modelling too. Here you get to make what you want and it is more fun than school was.
“I like studying at Sheppey. It’s close to home and small, so you know all the people, you get to know everyone in one year.
“The staff are really nice. You get to know them well. It’s a smaller College, much nicer, it’s more personable, more 1:1.
“After school, I had no idea what I wanted to do. College helped me figure that out earlier.”

Jack – Level 3 Creative Media
“I enjoy the creative side of the course and how much you can do what you want to do, especially for the final projects. My final project involved me creating a horror trailer which has been a lot of fun to create and see come to life. I’d say this has been my favourite part so far. Another project that I’ve really enjoyed was designing a website.
“Thanks to College I’ve got better at socialising, communication, and have also improved my skills with Photoshop and Illustrator.
“I picked the course because I thought College would be better for me personally. I feel I’ve changed a lot for the better and become a lot more confident than I usually was.
“I’d say to anyone considering College to do it as it’s a lot of fun. You learn new skills and you can make new friends so there’s nothing to lose.
“The support here is really good. If you have a problem, the teachers will help you with it, and they’ll break it down in certain stages for you to achieve your goal.
“I’m still at College for another year, but afterwards, I’d like to do something in university, but I’m not sure what just yet.
“Next year I’m really excited about the different work we’re going to have and the new opportunities that will be available. I’m also looking forward to next year’s final project, as I can create something new and something that’s more enhanced than my trailer this year.”
