Our mission is to play a leading role for East Kent in developing the economic and social prosperity of the diverse communities we serve.
From work experience in Portugal to hands-on training in assault courses, Emily shares how studying Public Services is helping her pursue her dream of becoming Cabin Crew.
Choosing the Right Course
When I first thought about my future, I wanted to become Cabin Crew, but I needed to improve my Maths and English. That’s when I discovered this course, and I realised it was still connected to my dream job. After all, being a member of Cabin Crew is a public service role, and Uniformed Public Services seemed like a great way to gain useful skills.
This course felt like the perfect stepping stone, and I’m so glad I chose it. It’s been a great mix of learning, hands-on experience, and adventure.

Learning Through Experience
One of the best things about this course is the practical experience we get. I love going on adventures, working in teams, and gaining real-world experience. We work with a lot of services around Sheppey, which help us understand what jobs are really like.
So far, one of my favourite experiences was a trip to Lisbon, Portugal, where I worked in a gym. It wasn’t exactly what I expected, but it was still a great opportunity to see how businesses operate. Even something as simple as handing out flyers was an important part of the job. During the week we got to practice our customer service skills in a variety of jobs, which will be really useful in my future.
I also took part in an army-style assault course at Booney’s, where we had to climb over ropes and complete different challenges. It was tough, but so much fun, I like to keep active.

Exciting Opportunities Ahead
I’m really looking forward to our next trip to Tenerife. We’ll get to go on boats, observe dolphins and whales, and even record their sounds. One of the activities is based on tourism, which is perfect for me because it links directly to my goal of becoming Cabin Crew. I can’t wait to take part!
Supportive Staff and College Community
The Lecturers here are amazing. Faye, in particular, is really supportive—she gives us a push when we need it, but she’s also there to help if we need anything. The whole college environment is great, and I’ve built really good relationships with the staff.
Martin, who works at the College, has also been a huge help. I can always sit and talk to him, it’s nice knowing there’s someone looking out for you.

Looking to the Future
Once I finish this course, my plan is to find a Cabin Crew Apprenticeship. That’s the next big step for me, and I’m really excited to make it happen.
This course has given me the confidence and experience I need to achieve my dream. I can’t wait to see where it takes me!
