We explore some interesting careers you could pursue after completing your Education and Early Years qualification. 

Everyone will presume you want to be a Nursery Assistant or a Teacher, which are rewarding, brilliant choices, although what about if you have other career goals as well as looking after children? 

In this blog, we explore some interesting careers you could pursue after completing your Education and Early Years qualification. 

If you like to travel, you could consider:  

Au Pair  

As an Au Pair you would live with your host family in a foreign country. You would provide childcare in exchange for room, food and a wage. The role of an Au Pair is designed to be a cultural exchange, allowing you to immerse yourself in the host country’s language and culture while assisting the family with day-to-day childcare needs.  

This is an ideal choice if there is one country you’d love to learn more about whilst putting your childcare skills to a good use.  

Cruise Ship Youth Worker 

A Cruise Ship Youth Worker combines the excitement of world travel with the joy of working with children. As a Youth Worker you would be responsible for creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for kids and teens. You would organise activities for the young people aboard the ship ensuring young passengers have a blast while on board.  

This role is perfect for childcare professionals who have a desire to travel, as it offers the chance to see the world while doing what they love! 

If you like to be adventurous, you could consider:  

Forest School Leader 

A Forest School Leader works outdoors with groups of children, you’d teach them about nature whilst also promoting important life skills such as teamwork and problem solving. You would be responsible for creating outdoor, hands-on learning experiences for children of all ages. You’ll lead activities such as den building and insect house making.  

It’s a rewarding role for those passionate about education and the outdoors. You’d be making a meaningful impact on young learners’ lives! 

Outdoor Adventure Instructor 

As an Outdoor Adventure Instructor, you lead activities such as rock climbing, kayaking and camping. Instructors are responsible for providing safe and exhilarating experiences for the young people in their group. Not only will you be teaching your group about the importance of spending time outdoors and keeping active, but you’ll also help your recruits to build their confidence and develop their teamwork skills. 

If you love being outdoors, being active and working with children this could be the role for you. 

 

If you like to write, you could consider: 

Children’s Book Author  

As you will know reading books and storytelling are an essential part of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS). As an Author you would spend lots of time writing your story ready to be sent to the publishers. You would also get the opportunity to go into schools and nurseries to conduct research for new characters and stories. You would be shaping the minds of the future one page at a time. 

If writing creatively is your thing and you have the knowledge of children’s developmental stages from your course, becoming a Children’s Author is a fantastic option.   

Children’s TV Script Editor 

In this role you would be working with script writers, producers and possibly child Actors. Your job would be to help to shape stories for the show. You would be working with the script writers to perfect the characters, plot and dialogue ensuring that the script is engaging and appropriate for your young viewers. You would use your Early Years knowledge to incorporate educational elements into the show whilst keeping the script fun.  

This is a great choice if you love storytelling, writing and working with children. You could help create the next famous cartoon dog! 

 

If you like to perform, you could consider: 

Children’s Entertainer  

Are you passionate about dressing up, performing, and leading fun activities? If so, a career as a Children’s Entertainer might be perfect for you. Entertainers bring joy to children at a variety of venues such as holiday parks, community fairs, and birthday parties. Your job would be to host engaging activities, with the aim of keeping children interested. From craft sessions and face painting to themed character lunches, every event offers something new and exciting. 

If you’re someone with endless energy this role could be a great fit. You’d have to embrace your inner child and not be afraid to have fun! 

Children’s TV Host  

In this role is would be key to have a big stage presence, you’ll need to be able to form relationships quickly and be very adaptable. As a Children’s TV Host, you would be working with Producers, Directors and other Creatives to form a positive environment, ensuring your guests feel welcomed and comfortable to chat with you.  

Having a knowledge of what children enjoy and will find amusing will be helpful in this role. Be prepared for cheesy jokes and catchy theme songs! 

Just look at all the options for Education and Early Years students! Finding a job you love is vital for your mental wellbeing and productivity in the role. When considering life after College, you should think about any other interests you have: can you find a job which incorporates your passion for working with children and your favourite hobby?
