Gregor Macgregor is Deputy Principal of EKC Sheppey College.
Gregor has worked in many roles across East Kent Colleges Group, most recently as the Head of Building Services at EKC Canterbury College, bringing a wealth of experience to the role.
We spoke to him to learn a little bit more about himself, and what he hopes to achieve in the role.

What is your background in your education career?
I value the role Colleges play in giving people a new start, as I completed my A Levels at EKC Canterbury College.
My career in education started when I was invited by staff who knew me from the College to join as a Learning Support Practitioner. They thought I was good at breaking ideas down and helping others grasp ideas. This opportunity allowed me to discover my passion for helping students and supporting their educational journeys.
Over time, I then became a Lecturer in Building Services, before progressing upwards and eventually becoming the Head of Building Services.
What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
The inspiration to pursue a career in education came from watching how great my teachers were. I enjoyed seeing how passionate about their subjects they were, and how this had an impact on people’s lives. Seeing the difference that dedicated staff can make inspired me to follow this path.
What do you hope to achieve in your role?
In my role as Deputy Principal, I aim to build on our inclusive and supportive learning environment in the College. I am proud that this is a place where every student feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. With my background, I understand the importance of bursaries and how these can greatly help our students.
What do you think are some key skills and knowledge that students need to succeed?
To succeed, students need to be willing to try new things and learn from both their successes and failures.
Additionally, I’d say making time to reflect on their day and experiences is crucial for continuous improvement and personal growth.
What’s one lesson or piece of advice you would give to students?
One piece of advice I would give to students is to embrace every learning opportunity with an open mind. Remember that every experience, whether positive or challenging, offers valuable lessons that contribute to your overall development.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I have a passion for board games and puzzles, and love an escape room. For me, it’s not only a great way to unwind but also help me in developing my strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
Thank you to Gregor for sharing his experiences, and we look forward to his work in the College.
