Four Hairdressing students have had amazing success at this year’s KFE4Skills finals, with all of them receiving medals for their efforts.
Held at MidKent College’s Gillingham site, the KFE4Skills Commercial finals challenged students in a variety of areas from Hairdressing, Beauty, Catering, Early Years, Health and Social Care.
Our students were up against counterparts from the rest of the East Kent Colleges Group, as well as MidKent College and North Kent College.
Hairdressing was split into four categories; ‘Blow Dry’ ‘Cut and Style’, ‘Ladies Styling’ and ‘Avant Garde.’
Level 2 student, Cliona, represented Sheppey in the Blow Dry contest, with Hair Lecturer Jessica Hughes stepping in as a model for the day. Her challenge was to create the best hair look using just a simple blow-drying technique. For her efforts, Cliona received a bronze medal.
Speaking after the contest, Cliona said: “There was a lot of pressure due to timings, but I worked hard and was able to achieve the vision that I wanted. Jess kindly volunteered to be my model for the day, and I am so grateful to her for her support.”
Rosie and Yullia, also Level 2 students, faced each other in the day’s third challenge, which was ‘Ladies Styling’. Both students were tasked with creating a look based on an era. Makeup could be applied by the students beforehand, with the final focused on the hair itself and of the quality of work during the allocated time.
Makeup for this event was donated to our Hairdressers by Revolution, a worldwide beauty brand who are based in Queensborough on the Island. The makeup really helped our students’ models stand out and added finishing touches to the final looks.
For Ladies’ Styling, Rosie came 2nd and won a Silver Medal, with Yullia coming 1st and winning a Gold Medal for her efforts.
Programme Director, Fay Morgan, was pleased with the competition, and said: “It was great for all our students to walk away with medals. They have all worked so hard and they should be so proud of themselves. A big thank you to those who have supported us, in particular Revolution for donating makeup.
Yuliia was also involved in the competition as a model, helping fellow hairdresser, Salima, with her entry for the fourth category, ‘Avant Garde.’ Salima made over Yullia with a look inspired by fairytales.
The judges awarded Salima 3rd, and Yullia and Salima collected their medals together on the main stage.
