A Sheppey College Hairdressing student has taken first place in her category at this year’s KFE4Skills23 Finals, ranking her the best in Kent.
Jena Gates took part in the Cut and Blow Dry category of the Hairdressing contests, which were all held at Canterbury College. Facing competition from students across Kent, including those from other EKC Group Colleges as well as MidKent College and North Kent College, this was a great chance for Jena to stand out and have her skills judged by industry experts.
After a unanimous decision by the judges for her Cut and Blow Dry work on model Tilly, Jena was crowned first place, and can now proudly say she is the best at the skill in Kent.
Upon receiving her award, she said: “It was great to travel down to Canterbury College, even if it was quite an early start. I was 100% confident heading into it, but admittedly I was a bit surprised at how long we had to do it. It was a bit of rush at the end, but I’m really proud of what I achieved.”
“When I heard I’d won I was honestly mostly nervous because I was worried about going up onstage, but obviously it’s really nice to be recognised by the judges.”
We are wishing a big congratulations to Jena, and can’t wait to see how far her skills will further develop during her time with us. Well done to Tilly for volunteering to be her model for the day!
