Business students Troy and Jack, share their top five tips for interview success.

Making a great impression in a job interview is crucial. Level 2 Business students, Troy and Jack, get plenty of practice for job interviews as part of their course.

They meet guest speakers from different companies who share their experiences and insights into industry and can visit local businesses to give them a glimpse into professional settings where they can learn from current employees.

In today’s blog, Troy and Jack share their top five tips for interview success.

Be Confident

“Having confidence is key to appearing professional and capable of the role you are interviewing for. When you project confidence, it shows the interviewer you are prepared and qualified for the role. Maintain good posture, make eye contact, give a firm handshake, and speak clearly. Don’t be afraid to take a pause before answering to gather your thoughts.”

Ask Good Questions

“Asking strong questions demonstrates to the interviewer that you have a real interest in the position and company. Smart questions include ones about the work, products and services, challenges the company face, company culture, or growth plans.”

Think about your Body Language

“Your body language speaks volumes, so be mindful of this. Sit up straight, lean slightly forward, and maintain good eye contact to appear engaged and informed. Avoid crossing your arms, and limit fidgeting behaviours like playing with your hair or a pen.”

Research the Company

“Thoroughly research the company’s history, mission, competitors, and leadership ahead of the interview. When you know key details about the company’s background and work, you come across as someone who has prepared and is truly invested in the opportunity. You can even reference specific information you’ve learned to demonstrate your knowledge.”

Take Notes during the interview

“Bring a pen and notepad to jot down notes throughout the interview. Taking notes signals that you are actively listening and allows you to review details later to prepare any follow-up questions. Note skills or qualities they say are important for success in the role.”

Follow these five tips and you’ll prove you’re the ideal candidate to hire. Hitting the marks of confidence, interest, positive body language, company knowledge and note-taking will help you make a stellar and lasting impression in your next job interview.
