If you’re thinking about a future in construction, we caught up with current Level 2 Bricklaying student, Callum, to see what his typical day looks like.
From balancing classroom learning to enjoying your student experience, there’s plenty to do each day to make your studies worth it.
Morning:
English lessons can start off your day and are a key part, helping you build the skills you’ll need for your GCSEs and beyond. You’ll usually have a few sessions each week, giving you the confidence to communicate clearly and progress in your career.
After that, it’s time for a well-earned break. Whether it’s a quick game of pool or just catching up with friends, it’s a chance to reset before heading into the workshop.
Once you’re in, the day really gets going. You’ll start by preparing your materials, such as mixing mortar and getting everything ready, before you move on to the practical side of the course.
By laying bricks in our workshop environment, you’ll get to practice your techniques.
Lunchtime:
Lunchtime is your time to switch off. Many students head into town, grab some food from our on-site refectory and spend time with friends.
It’s a chance to recharge before the afternoon session begins and to take a break from your hard work.
Afternoon:
The afternoon is all about building on what you’ve learned in the morning.
You might be introduced to a new bricklaying technique or continue developing your existing skills, with plenty of time to practise and improve.
One of the most rewarding parts of the day is seeing your progress take shape. As your confidence grows, so will the quality of your work.
Before heading home, it’s especially important to tidy up the workshop and get everything ready for the next day.
By ending on a sense of achievement, you’ll feel another step further towards your future career.
Hometime:
By the time the day wraps up, you’ve put in a solid mix of classroom learning and practical work. It’s now time to head home, knowing you’re developing.
If you’re currently finishing school and thinking about what comes next, it’s worth exploring where a course like this could take you.
