Who can apply for an apprenticeship?
To apply for an apprenticeship, you must live in England and be at least 16 years old. There is no age limit, so whether you are looking for new skills, a qualification, a change in career or to progress in your current role then an apprenticeship might be for you.
How long does an apprenticeship last?
Apprenticeships typically last between 12 and 24 months. Depending on the level of qualifications, they can last much longer.
Will I get paid during my apprenticeship?
Yes, you are entitled to a wage per the guidelines set by the UK government. Apprentices are paid a wage by their employer for the duration of their apprenticeship, which includes the time spent on training. As well, apprentices are entitled to a minimum of 20 days paid leave each year, plus bank holidays and sick pay.
What qualifications will I earn through my apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships offer a variety of different levels.
- Level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE.
- Level 3 is equivalent to an A Level.
- Levels 4 and 5 is equivalent to a Foundation Degree and above.
- Level 6 is equivalent to a full bachelor’s degree
- Level 7 is equivalent to a master’s degree.
What happens at the end of an apprenticeship?
By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have developed skills and knowledge as well as a qualification to progress in your industry. After your apprenticeship, there may be further opportunities to complete a higher-level apprenticeship to develop your skills and role further. Employers are not obliged to offer you a permanent role, though they are keen to invest in future talent, and most apprentices do end up being offered a permanent role.
