Level 2 Hairdressing

This programme is designed to help you move toward a Level 3 qualification, which can lead to advanced jobs or apprenticeships.

You can finish with a Level 2 qualification and get a skilled job at the end of the course but progressing to Level 3 will give you more career choices and improve your future earning potential. It also opens doors to further studies, like Higher Education and Higher or Degree Apprenticeships. These can lead you from advanced technician or supervisor roles at Level 3 to management or professional status as you continue studying.

To join this programme, you’ll need the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at grade 3, ideally including English and maths.

All assessments are designed to ensure you can demonstrate your practical ability and understanding of professional hairdressing techniques.

You’ll be assessed with practical observations in our salons, alongside written assignments and online tests that check your knowledge and understanding.

Most importantly, you’ll also build a portfolio of your work, giving you a visual record of your progress and achievements that you can use for future opportunities.

After completing this Level 2 course, you’ll be ready to begin working in an entry-level position within the hair and beauty industry.

You may also choose to progress onto further study, such as a Level 3 qualification, or move into an apprenticeship to continue developing your skills in a real working environment.

Level 2 learner, Rosie, has now been offered paid-work thanks to studying the Level 2 course, and is eager about her next steps:

“Placement at Beez Neez was great. I think it’s really helped with my confidence and I’m more comfortable around new people, which I used to struggle with a lot.

“I’m very pleased that I’ve been offered paid work there when I’m not in College. I’d love to get a full-time job in a Salon and focus on cutting and styling when I finish my studies. College is a great step to take.”

There’s no point in keeping your talents hidden, which is why you can take part in skills competitions and industry showcases throughout the year.

We also visit major industry expos such as ‘Salon International’, where you’ll experience a range of trips and opportunities that deepen your understanding of hairdressing.

You’ll also begin to discover which area of the hair and beauty industry suits your interests and strengths, by getting involved in events and working with local partners. Skills workshops recently have seen us collaborate with Hair Plus Academy, StudX Ear Piercing and Ginger Hair and Beauty.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s also the opportunity to take part in social action projects across the campus during our Community Weeks. These activities not only boost your personal growth, but are an opportunity to give back and impact Swale for the better.
