Introducing the Students’ Union at EKC Sheppey College

4 November 2026
In this blog, we share the importance of the Students’ Union, what our new SU President hopes to achieve over the next year, and how you can get involved when you join EKC Sheppey College.

A big part of College life is our Students’ Union (SU), but what does this mean?

In this blog, we share the importance of the Students’ Union, what our new SU President hopes to achieve over the next year, and how you can get involved when you join EKC Sheppey College.

Firstly, what is the Students’ Union?

The Students’ Union (SU) is a group of students dedicated to representing your voice, organising events, and running campaigns to enhance College life.

Every student automatically becomes a member of the SU when they join us, giving you the opportunity to get involved, share your ideas, and help shape student experiences.

The SU is led by the Students’ Union President, who works closely with the Student Experience Officer, to support clubs, societies, and enrichment activities across the College.

Who is the new Students’ Union President for 2026/27?

We’re pleased to announce Taylor as our new Students’ Union President for the 2026/27 academic year.

He’s excited to create more positive change this year and ensure the SU is an inclusive one where everyone feels valued.

What is Taylor excited about in the year ahead?

As the new SU President, Taylor is most excited about getting everyone involved with trips, activities and events.

He said of his goals this year: “I am really excited to continue the events that we have going on at EKC Sheppey College, and I’m looking forward to using my Creative Media skills to help make these more enticing.

“Previous SU Presidents focused on subject areas, so my aim is to see how I can include every single student and have their voice heard.”

What clubs, societies, activities and events can I get involved with at EKC Sheppey College?

There’s plenty to get involved in at College, with a range of clubs, creative activities and pop-up events taking place throughout the year.

As an example, you can join our Games Club on Wednesday lunchtimes, with new clubs such as Badge-Making Club coming soon.

There are also opportunities to take part in wellbeing activities, self-care sessions and themed events, giving everyone the chance to try something new, meet other students and have fun.

Previous events have included Halloween-themed challenges to self-care sessions celebrating ‘Self-Care Awareness Week’, like nail painting and bracelet making.

How do I give my thoughts or feedback to the Students’ Union?

If you want to suggest a trip, event or activity, or just want to share your opinion, there are many ways you can do so.

Firstly, you can speak to Taylor directly, or our Student Experience Officer, Ellie.

One of Taylor’s main messages this year is that he is open to any suggestions or feedback, even if it seems small to you. He is passionate about raising the student voice and wants students to feel comfortable sharing their ideas.

In addition, each class has a ‘Class Rep’, who feeds back to the SU about what’s going on in the classroom.

You can also become an elected officer of the SU, in roles such as ‘Publicity Officer’ or ‘LGBTQIA+ Officer’.

How do I get started with student life at EKC Sheppey College?

As you automatically become a member of the SU when you join us, all you need to do is to apply for a course on our website.
