EKC Sheppey College students filled the Campus today for the annual Freshers’ Fayre, an event where new and returning students came together to start the new academic year.

The College was full of energy as students explored the wide range of activities, support services and opportunities available to them.

From free gifts and treats to advice and information from local organisations, there was plenty to discover.

A fantastic selection of stalls filled the College, offering something for everyone. Students could speak with organisations including NHS Community Health, Peel Ports, and Sheppey FM, gaining advice on topics ranging from what their career could look like to what support they can gain in the wider community.

There was also the chance to meet various critters, courtesy of Creepy Claws. These included millipedes, a boa constrictor, a hedgehog and a giant land snail.

Alongside external organisations, College teams and student-led societies showcased the many ways students can make the most of their time at College.

The Students’ Union stall gave the team a chance to promote the Students’ Union President role, gather some feedback from students about their first few weeks and give out some freebies.

Our Student Experience Officer, Ellie, organised this event, and spoke about the importance of opportunities like the Freshers’ Fayre for College life.

Ellie said: “Today has been successful. I’ve tried to make it as interactive as possible and it’s really paid off.

“The day has seen students get to try new activities, speak to people, and get them thinking about doing things they haven’t done before.

“I’m glad it’s been successful and everyone seems to be smiling!”

Principal, Alexandra, was overjoyed with the turnout and the student engagement, adding: “It is the biggest and most varied Freshers’ Fayre we have had in years. It’s been great to see it absolutely packed with organisations and information that will be useful for our students.”

While the Freshers’ Fayre provided a warm welcome to the new academic year, it is just one part of the wider student experience at EKC Sheppey College.

Throughout the year, students have access to a range of enrichment opportunities, societies, support services and facilities designed to help them succeed, develop new skills and make the most of their time at College.

For one of the attendees, Jaiden, who is studying Level 3 Creative Media, their highlight of studying at EKC Sheppey College is the dedicated Learning Resource Centre (LRC), which offers students a welcoming space to study, collaborate and access additional support throughout the year.

They said: “It’s a great space to learn as you can go and just chill out in there when you need it, alongside the support staff.”

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the companies, charities and organisations who joined us, including those such as:
