EKC Sheppey College celebrates Level 3 Results Day success

Today marks an exciting moment for students at EKC Sheppey College as they collect their Level 3 results.

With many securing places to continue their studies and others preparing to start full-time work, there was a buzz across the College today as students found out their results, and thanked their lecturers for their support.

Liam studied Level 3 Creative Media at College and achieved a Merit.

As a result of his success, he is now heading to Medway School of Arts to study Photography for three years.

Speaking about their journey at College, Liam said: “I’ve loved the range of areas you can work in with Creative Media, because then you know roughly what you want to do by the time you leave College. Being here has allowed me to explore photography, so I’m now pursuing it further.”

When asked what advice he’d give to new students, he said: “My advice is to talk to your lecturer about what you want your main focus to be. Even outside of the work units, we’ve done photography trips and explored a lot of Kent, even if it didn’t align with our units, so you can get information about Creative Media in the wider world.”

Isabella is another one of our Level 3 Creative Media students exploring their next steps, as she now progresses to Royal Holloway University of London to study Liberal Arts.

She’s very excited about her course, saying: “There, I’ll be exploring not just art, but also social sciences, psychology and other subjects in the course. I also get to learn a language as part of it as well, so I’m going to be learning Italian, which will become the fourth language I can speak!”

Her inspiration to study Liberal Arts came from the support she recieved in College, and her final year project.

She spoke about this project in more detail: “I’ve really loved my final year project. It was photography and my concept was German expressionism, which focused on old movies that I took inspiration from. I used some of my classmates to model that and then I created shadows to help bring it to life.”

Luke is another one of our learners heading to university, as he is going to University of East London to study Cyber Security and Networks.

He’s excited about the opportunity and thanks College for his progression, saying: “College has enabled me to study independently, and being alone in general at the start has helped, as I knew no one here and I’ll know no one again at university. I’ve always known I wanted to go to university and being here has got me the grades I need. This was the course I wanted to do and picking Sheppey to study it seemed like the sensible choice.”

Keane, who also studied Level 3 Creative Media, achieved a Pass today.

He said of his success this year: “I’m very happy with my grade and I’m proud of the work that I’ve done. I think the best part of College has been the lecturers, as they’re all so supportive.

“My advice is just say yes to literally anything you have on the course. I got asked to do some interviews as part of a filming project, and I didn’t want to do it, but I said yes anyway and I loved it!”

He is now exploring his dreams of becoming a voiceover actor, thanks to support from his family who are already in the industry.

“I’d love to get into acting, or voice acting,” he said.

“I’d like to be in adverts that you can see before films, or at train stations. I’d like to be known for a character that people love. I’m building up to that, so I’ll be getting a job just to fund my passions and work on that in the meantime.”

Thanks to College, Francesca feels ready for a career in the creative arts, and has loved her experience studying Level 3 Creative Media.

She said at today’s Results Day: “My advice would be just be yourself. Stick at it! I nearly left College as I was so anxious when I started about the new environment, but do stick at it, as its a fabulous course. I’ve met so many great people, and it’s the best educational facility I’ve ever been to. It’s a great College.

“I’ve discovered a lot more about IT and the technical side of design. I’ve learnt a lot of IT skills that I didn’t know before. It’s really helped me, job-wise, in the future, as now I have in-depth knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and other Adobe products which employers use.”

Also celebrating was Bill, who achieved a Merit in Level 3 Creative Media, and is now set to further explore his passion for Game Design.

“I like how I’ve learned lots of new stuff. College has made me realise what I want to do in the future and which direction I’ve wanted to go in – which has been Game Design.”

When asked his advice for new students, he said: “Don’t worry so much about thinking you need to know what you want to specialise in. Just see how it goes, as you find that all out later on.”

Programme Director for IT, Creative Media and Business, Lily-Mae Kew, said of today’s success: “We are incredibly proud of our students. It has been a pleasure to teach and support them over the past two years, and we wish them every success and happiness in their next steps.”
