By studying Creative Media, Rebekah has thrown herself into College life, from getting involved in events and design work to taking on new experiences outside the classroom.

She spoke to us about how different College feels compared to school, how being able to express herself has made a huge difference, and why trying new things has been such an important part of her journey so far.

What are you studying?

“I’m studying Level 2 Creative Media. I didn’t start College on this course, but I was supported to move over as it’s where my interests and my skills lied.

“I really like that I’m able to get involved in events, creating designs and helping promote them to the wider College community on this course.”

What’s your experience of College been like compared to school?

“I love College. I really didn’t like school, but coming here felt completely different.

“The social side is a big part of that. At school, you’re often in forced situations, but here it’s more relaxed. Everyone just seems to get along and there’s a nice community spirit.

“There’s also no uniform and people are allowed to really express themselves here. You see all sorts of styles, hair colours and piercings. There’s a sense that you can just be yourself.

“From what I see, people are more comfortable and confident, and that helps in lessons too.

“It feels like a more grown-up environment where individuality is encouraged.

“One of my highlights is that I’ve recently gone to Thailand with the College. It was such a really fun and interesting experience.”

Have you thought about what you want to do in the future?

“I’m not completely sure what I want to do in the future yet. I’d like to be successful, ideally a millionaire if I’m being honest.

“I’ve even thought about politics as I’ve worked in the College’s Students’ Union and really like being able to make a difference. Maybe I could be an MP or Prime Minister.

“I’m not really sure. It’s hard to know at this age.”

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to new students?

“I think what matters is that you’re trying things and finding what suits you.

“If your first option isn’t right for you, don’t be afraid to change courses and find something that feels better.

“My friend Jess, for example, moved courses before finding the right fit. There’s flexibility to try different routes, especially in the early stages.”

College offers a wide range of courses designed to help you build real skills, gain confidence, and prepare for your future.
