Level 2 Hairdressing, student Freddie recently travelled to EKC Broadstairs College to compete in this year’s annual KFE Hairdressing Heats. Competing in the First-Year Blow Dry category, Freddie impressed judges and secured an outstanding 2nd place.
The annual competition welcomed 38 students from across the East Kent Colleges Group to compete in four exciting categories: First-Year Blow Dry, Cut and Blow Dry, Ladies’ Hair-Up Bridal, and Ladies’ Hair-Up Era. The event gives students the chance to showcase their skills, creativity, and technical ability in front of industry experts. Winners from each category go on to compete at KFE4Skill against top students from North and MidKent Colleges.
For Freddie, the day was about more than just winning and said, “The reason I wanted to come and do it was because not many boys do our course, I think showing people that a boy did it might encourage others to do it too.”
The First-Year Blow Dry competition challenges students to create a professional, salon-ready hairstyle within a set time, showing both technical skill and creativity. With minutes to spare Freddie created a sleek, voluminous blow dry perfectly styled. His work impressed the judges, earning him 2nd place.
Reflecting on his success, Freddie praised his lecturers “I really enjoy my course, my lecturers Claire, Faye and Jess, especially Claire, they all really encouraged me and without them I wouldn’t have done this competition”.
Freddie’s achievement not only highlights his skill and dedication but also serves as an inspiration for others considering pursuing their passion in Hairdressing.
