Why should I get involved with the Students’ Union?

29 December 2025
Learn more about our SU, which is led by students, for students, giving you the chance to influence and inform decisions that matter.

Being an active member of the Students’ Union (SU) will help shape your whole College experience.

So, if any of the follow questions stand out to you, why not consider getting more involved.

The SU represents students’ views and works with the College to make positive changes — from improving facilities to shaping student life.

Getting involved gives you the opportunity to make a difference.

The SU brings students together through events like Freshers’ activities, campaigns, and socials. It’s one of the easiest ways to make friends outside of your course and feel part of the wider College community.

Whether you’re taking part in clubs, signing up for student trips or assisting with fundraising attempts like Red Nose Day, you’ll be surrounded by likeminded individuals who may become some of your best friends.

Being involved in the SU helps you develop skills like teamwork, leadership, communication, and confidence.

Whether you decide to run for SU President, volunteer as a Student Officer, or are even elected as a Class Rep, you’ll be gaining real experience that employers and universities love, so don’t forget to mention it on your CV, job applications and university personal statements!

College life isn’t only about what happens in the classroom. The SU helps organise trips, celebrations, awareness campaigns, and student-led activities that make your time at College more exciting and memorable.

So, don’t be a stranger. Next time you’re at College pop into the Student Centre and challenge someone to a game of pool, or try to beat the day’s top score on the arcade machine!

The Students’ Union is all about students supporting students. Whether it’s wellbeing initiatives, charity fundraising, or listening to feedback, your involvement helps create a better experience for everyone.

Over the years, the SU has supported with many initiatives including a College foodbank, providing free feminine hygiene products, and free contraception for all students.

Getting involved in the Students’ Union means having fun, meeting new people, building skills, and shaping your college experience. Why not give it a go?
